Choose the Right Sacramento Outdoor Living Builder for Deck/Patios

February 22, 2017

Outdoor living building is getting more and more popular. According to Professional Builder, covered patios and other outdoor living areas, such as decks, are becoming more of an important part of new home designs, from small condo-living to the sprawling home spaces. Whether you plan to buy or sell your home in Sacramento, outdoor living spaces add to your final investment in a big way.

There are many deck and patio builders to choose from in the Sacramento area. Each company has their specialty, but when it comes to quality, there’s one company that stands above the rest: Deome 2 Builders. Here are three reasons we are the best Sacramento Deck Builder:

Three Generations of Experience

We are one of the only outdoor living builders in the Sacramento region that have been in the business for three generations. Brothers Fred and Harley Deome run this third-generation deck-building company. Trained in the latest Trex installation methods and designs, both earned the title of certified TrexPro contractor.  Deome 2 Builders is one of the oldest outdoor living construction businesses in the Sacramento area. Our reputation speaks for itself.

Excellence

We do all of our own work at Deome2. Because we use no subcontractors, our builders keep a tight year-round schedule installing decks, patios, and fencing in Sacramento, CA, and the surrounding area. We are A+ rated on both Angies list and BBB. We have multiple reviews there from our loyal clients.

Consistent

While more and more companies offer outdoor living construction as a supplementary service these days, it pays to go with a builder that focuses on these elements. This establishes consistency and commitment to providing high-quality construction. It is also improtant to find a company that has licensed, bonded and certified contractors. Brothers Fred and Harley Deome run this third-generation deck-building company and are Trex Pro Platinum certified decking installers.

With rising real estate costs, it is worth it to invest in an outdoor living space. A new or remodeled project will give you resort style accommodations right in the privacy of your own Sacramento home. It will provide you a great place to relax, enjoy the outdoors and unwind from the daily grind of our busy Sacramento lifestyles. Don’t leave this important project to just anyone; learn what you need to know to find a trustworthy contractor in your community.

Take Your Deck to the Next Level with these Accessories!!

January 12, 2017

Adding a deck to your home is a big decision and once done can provide endless opportunities for outside fun. As summer approaches we found several neat accessories you can add to your deck to take it to the next builder. As a deck builder in Sacramento we try to constantly help our past, current and customers improve their decking experience. Here are a few accessories we found.

Epson MegaPlex MG-850HD: All-in-One Projector

All-in-one projectors—which come with sound systems and DVD players included—are basically built for the outdoors. It takes just a single power plug to get them running, with no messy audio cords or HDMI cables.

This Epson is unique for one simple reason: It switches out the DVD player for a built-in iPad/iPhone/iPod dock. This allow you to seamlessly stream any videos you happen to have on your gadget, and it also lets you project video-streaming apps such as Netflix, effectively turning your iDevice into an endless supplier of movies, TV, etc.

Additional tip: If you don’t have a fancy outdoor projection screen, just grab a white sheet and a couple of clamps for an instant outdoor theater.

All About Railings

October 25, 2016

Though it may seem like a minor detail, railing plays a big part in the function and overall appearance of any deck. It’s often the first thing you see, so make sure it’s a good choice. There are tons of options available, so you can definitely find one that meets both your safety needs and your personal style.

Railing comes in several different materials. Wood is a class and can nicely match your wooden deck, but like your deck, it’ll require staining and maintenance to keep it looking good. Iron is durable, but heavy and hard to work with. Glass is beautiful but requires cleaning to keep it looking good. Composite and aluminum are a good alternative, requiring less maintenance and offering a versatile, attractive look.

Safety is obviously the most important thing when it comes to railing, especially if your deck is high off the ground. Decks that lie closer to the ground don’t require as many safety precautions, although a railing around the perimeter and handrail for the steps is always a good idea. But more-elevated decks need a little more, possibly a higher railing to reduce the risk of falling over. Consider a railing with more tightly spaced posts to prevent anything (or anyone) from falling through. You may also want to consider how much privacy you want. If you don’t want your railing to interrupt the view of your backyard, consider one with thin balusters in a dark color to blend in with the environment. However, if you want more privacy from neighbors, you might opt for railing with thicker posts to block the view and give yourself a little more seclusion.

The color and style of your railing will have the most impact, visually. This is a fun part of the process, and there are countless deck and railing pairings out there. You can coordinate it with your deck color so that they match. That’s a classic, foolproof choice if you want a cozy, traditional look. On the other hand, if you want to try something different or are having a hard time matching your deck color, you might try a contrasting look. You could do a light color, or even a crisp white, against a darker deck, or a rich brown or black railing against a lighter deck. Black or white are classic options that can compliment any backyard or color scheme. Dark colors give a modern feel and also tend to blend in more with the background, whereas lighter colors tend to make more of a statement.

And if you’re especially daring and want to get creative with it, go ahead! There’s no wrong answer when it comes to railing as long as you’re happy with the results. Don’t be afraid to mix colors and materials, using differently colors for the posts and balusters, playing with texture, and so on. Make it as dramatic or as subtle as you want. Whatever pairing or combination you choose will have a big impact on your backyard and your home’s aesthetic, so make sure you love it!

One more thing to take into consideration is your local building codes. Most towns and cities have rules regulating the construction of decks and railings. For example, the International Residential Code (IRC) requires guardrails if your deck is elevated 30 inches or more off the ground. There may also be rules governing the specific products and materials used, so before you buy anything, check to make sure it meets your city’s guidelines.

If you’re not sure what railing is right for you or just want to find out more about your options, call Deome2 Builders at 916-412-2517 to talk to our experts!

How to Care for Your Deck

October 10, 2016

If you have a composite deck, lucky you! Your low maintenance deck basically takes care of itself. However, if you have a wood deck, you know that it needs a little TLC from time to time. Although beautiful and traditional, wood decks are more vulnerable to the elements and require the occasional stain or sealant application to keep them looking fresh. If your deck is starting to looks a little worse for the wear, it might be time for some deck maintenance.

Start off by cleaning your deck off, removing dirt with a pressure washer. Let it dry completely, waiting 24 hours. Make sure all boards are still in good shape, inspecting for rot, splintering, or loose boards.

Once you’ve made sure your deck is clean and structurally sound, it’s ready for a new coat of stain and sealant. Many types of lumber naturally resist insects and rot, but wood is still vulnerable to the elements. If you want to preserve it without changing the color, use a clear wood preservative. This will boost its appearance and add protection without changing the color of the wood. Or if you want to touch up the color, use an exterior stain in a semi-transparent finish, then a wood preservative after the stain has completely dried.

Wear protective goggles and gloves to avoid making contact with any harmful chemicals. Apply the stain or finish with a roller or brush. Let it soak into the wood for about 20 minutes, then go over the surface with a brush again to give a more consistent finish. Then apply a second coat for good measure. Let the deck dry for 48 hours before applying a sealant to finish it off. Now your deck is as good as new!

Which Decking Material is Right for You?

September 26, 2016

If you want to build a new deck, you now have more options for decking materials than ever before. Materials range from traditional wood to modern composite and PVC materials, and each type brings its own character and value to a deck. Read on to figure out your best fit:

Wood

The most traditional option, wood is a common decking material, particularly on older decks. Pressure-treated lumber makes for a cost-effective choice, and when properly maintained, it can last for years. Mid-priced woods like cedar and redwood are beautiful and more resistant to rot, but may be limited in availability depending on where you live. Tropical hardwoods like mahogany and ipe are more expensive, but they are the most durable options for a wood deck. They resist splitting and cracking, and offer lasting beauty. However, all wood decks require some degree of maintenance. Depending on the wood type, most require sealing and staining every few years to protect them from the elements. You must keep your wood deck well maintained, or you run the risk of it rotting, warping, and splintering after prolonged exposure to the elements.

PVC

Polyvinylchloride, or PVC, decking comprises entirely of plastic. Because it has no natural wood fibers and has been specifically created for decking purposes, PVC requires no staining or finishing and won’t ever crack, warp, or splinter. However, manufacturers usually design it as part of a system, which limits flexibility when it comes to installation. It also tends to be less impact-resistant, so scratches and dents show up over time.

Composite

Often made of recycled materials, wood-plastic composite material takes the best of both worlds. It combines wood fibers with recycled plastic material to create a durable deck that resists fading, staining, scratching, and mold. It requires no maintenance and tends to last at least twenty years. Because it isn’t exclusively plastic, composite decks usually look more wood-like than their PVC counterparts, and are more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly. Because of its durability, beauty, and easiness to care for, we highly recommend Trex Composite decking.

If you’re not sure what decking material is right for you, call Deome2 Builders at 916-412-2517 to talk to our experts!
