Ahhh, summertime. Long days, breezy nights, the sound of crickets chirping— it’s the perfect time of year for a leisurely backyard get together. Before the days get too short and the kids go back to school, throw one more party to celebrate the summer! Of course, there’s always the casual option of having some friends over for a few beers. But if you’ve just finished your new deck construction (or are looking to start that, in which case, give us a call), why not show it off and put it to good use? Invite all your friends, family, or neighbors for one last blast of summer!
First, set the stage. Make sure your deck is clean and tidy. If it’s older and looks a little shabby, we can help refurbish it. We specialize in not only deck construction, but also deck repair and refinishing! Once you have a good surface to work on, spruce up your deck furniture and set it up in little clusters. This will break up the space on your deck and provide areas for people to gather around and converse with each other. If you’re going to have games like cornhole going, make sure to leave some room for that! Add festive pillows, table clothes, and decorative objects.
Then create some ambiance. Even if your party starts before sundown, make sure you’ll have enough lighting to keep it going into the evening. String up some pretty strands of lights around your deck railings or up on your pergola if you have one. If you have a fire pit, make sure you have plenty of fuel to keep it going. Set out a couple of blankets if it’s going to be chilly.
Of course, you can’t forget about food. If you know how to grill, you can’t go wrong with a backyard barbecue. Hotdogs and hamburgers are summer classics, or if you don’t have the time or expertise, there’s no shame in doing sandwiches, ordering pizza, or having a potluck. Just make sure there are enough options that everyone can find something they like. And don’t forget about plates, napkins, and utensils! Set out coolers or drink buckets near the food and make sure to chill all your drinks beforehand.
When the party’s about to begin, set out the food and drinks, turn on background music, and light some candles to set the mood. (If there will be kids or pets around, battery-operated candles are a good idea.) Put on your party clothes, get ready to greet your guests, and then relax. Your deck looks great and everyone is going to have a wonderful time!
