Decks come in an amazing variety of styles, designs, materials, and heights. You can design one to suit any yard or home. One thing to think about before designing your dream deck is how high you want it to be. We build decks grade-level, raised, multi-level— whatever you want! A raised deck is common, but it partially depends on your home. Split-level homes often have the main living space on the second level. As a result, a deck for this style typically attaches to that level and sits high off the ground on sturdy posts like a pier. Or a multi-level deck with stairs in between could break up the space and create a more gradual descent. A house with a main level on the ground or slightly raised from the ground normally has a grade-level deck or one slightly raised, about one or two feet off the ground. Another option is an unattached deck out in your yard. Although these can be any height, they usually sit close to the ground as to blend in more with the yard.
Safety First
No matter what deck height you choose, you have to consider the safety aspects of it. A low-sitting deck is probably fine without railings, but one more than a few feet off the ground absolutely needs them. Decks are for relaxing— no one should have to worry about falling off it! A raised deck or multi-level deck also requires stairs, so you should take that into consideration. If you’d prefer a wheelchair accessible deck, we can build ramps too!
